As the final countdown begins, we’ve taken three of our favourite films of the year as inspiration and put together some super, celluloid style, selections.

First on our list is French comedy, The Artist, up for a whopping ten awards, including best film, director, actor and supporting actress.  This black and white, dialogue free, comedy drama focuses on the trials and tribulations of a Hollywood matinee idol, before the dawn of talkies.

Great fun, good looking and respectful of a bygone era, this is a movie full of classic, old Hollywood, feel good glamour, reflected in our choices of Black, White, Ivory, Sandstone, and Pale Grey.

Next up is swoony Clooney vehicle, The Descendants. Up for five awards, including best picture and best actor for George, the film focuses on an indifferent father, forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future after his wife falls into a coma as the result of a boating accident.

Set in Hawaii, the film portrays the Aloha State in a gorgeous but realistic light – from angst over land development to neglected swimming pools – and so came our inspiration with Light Blue, Sky Blue, Pale Green, Flash Green and French Green.

Last, but by no means least, The Help. Set in troubled 1960′s Mississippi, unlikely friendships are made, and trusted ones broken, via a secret writing project that puts all involved at risk. Both heartfelt and hilarious, it’s up for four awards and aside from the great performances it’s a real visual treat too.

Putting together Violet, Lavender, Sunflower Yellow and Pale Yellow we’ve taken the movie’s color themes and conjured up our very own retro style, southern, sassiness.
